The wheels on my 2006 Rav 4 are so pitted that even after copious grinding of the lip I can’t get them all to seal. I finally gave up and ordered a new set of aluminium wheels:
Ebay knockoffs
I’m up-sizing to 17 inchers to replace the base 16 inch steelies. Smaller == Better for me, since tires only get more expensive and rougher riding as you get bigger.
I picked up a set of BF Goodrich Advantage T/A SPORT LT tires ( !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ) to go on them:
Tires Going on
A new set of TPMS and the total bill will be north of $1k. I needed new tires anyway before snow flies, so I’m trying to tell myself it’s really just the cost of wheels ($450) that was added on but it still hurts.

Just an
anecdotal
story, one of my friends
has a RAV of a similar vintage
and the rim actually
cracked due to corrosion.
H
e had to buy a new set of wheels.

after you remove all the corrosion from the bead area (rust remover wheel works really well at this), you need to spray it with clearcoat and let it cure for 24 hrs before you mount a tire on it. I’ve had to do this to a lot of aluminum wheels that see winter salt.

Luckily I’m out of that shitty state, so no more salt!
